Fiona Cook

With over 22 years of clinical practice, I originally trained with Relate UK, later qualifying in psychotherapy. Seeking to create an approach specific for each client I adopt an integrative approach which has evolved from psychodynamic and systemic roots and underpin my work with the principles of mindfulness and compassion focused therapy.

It is a privilege to work with people who allow me into their lives when most vulnerable. Whether working with an individual or couple, my aim is to offer a space with respect and kindness. Together we explore the concerns brought to therapy and seek answers to change, enhance emotional wellbeing and strengthen and maintain emotional resilience.

As humans we live within social systems; the complexities sometimes overwhelming. Relationships are the core and at times can be tested. Over the years I have worked with clients from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and I learn from every person I meet in the therapy room. Whatever our background, it is the commonality and complexity of being human that is constantly fascinating and the focus of my work.

A few years ago, life led me to re-train in fertility work and I was amazed how it fitted with my original training, feeling a good ‘fit’ for me as a therapist. In this area of work my focus is not only on the impact of the person directly receiving the treatment, but equally on their partner and sometimes family.

Fertility treatment is one of the greatest challenges anyone can experience. Gaining valuable experience as a counsellor in an NHS licensed fertility clinic, I now continue to work privately. My support is only therapeutic; I cannot offer clinical advice but am knowledgeable of the varying procedures, treatments & HFEA guidelines.

As a professional member of the Donor Conception Network, I am particularly interested in, and work closely with those in need of a donor to create their family. This area also supports those wishing to give the gift of donation.

My work abides by the good practice guidelines of the respective organizations to which I belong:

  • Senior Accredited Member of BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy)
  • BICA Member (British Infertility Counselling Association)
  • ACTO Member (Association for Counselling and Therapy Online)

If you feel I can offer you support, please email or call me and I will respond as soon as possible. Please leave your telephone number and I will call you to arrange an initial, free online chat to see if I can help and ensure that you feel I am a good fit to work with.
